Why I stand with Unity Caucus

From being elected Delegate my first year teaching, to being elected Chapter Leader six years later, my journey in activism has opened my eyes to the extraordinary efforts that Unity members put in

The Unity Caucus represents the best of what we stand for: collective action, determination, and the drive to do what’s best for our members and our students. Their leadership has shown me that the strength of our union isn’t just in its size—it’s in the passion, dedication, and unity of its members. I’m proud to work alongside Unity and to support the work they do every day to keep our union strong, equitable, and forward-thinking.

I stand with the UFT Unity Caucus because I’ve experienced firsthand the dedication, tireless work, and unwavering commitment that keeps our union strong. From being elected as a Delegate my first year teaching, to being elected Chapter Leader six years later, my journey in union activism has opened my eyes to the extraordinary efforts that Unity members put in—not just the visible work, but also the tireless and often thankless work behind the scenes. Every day, I’ve seen how Unity’s efforts protect our rights, strengthen our contracts, and ensure that our voices are heard.

Being involved with Unity has deepened my understanding of what it means to advocate for our members. From arbitration training to handling issues at my school, I’ve gained a profound appreciation for the importance of our contract and the rights it guarantees. Unity’s leadership in protecting these rights is inspiring—they understand that every clause in our contract is a safeguard for educators and students alike. Witnessing their ability to fight for us at the bargaining table, in arbitration, and through grassroots activism has shown me how vital their work is to all of us.
